HEMENWAY WILL REOPEN IF PLEDGES ARE SECURED

Hemenway gymnasium will open this year once more provided that the members of the Law School are able to secure enough pledges to take care of running expenses. Last year the signers of the petition asking the University to open the old gymnasium withdrew when they were asked for money, and the Law School was forced to stand a loss of $4500.

This year authorities are determined to see the money before they promise action, but they are perfectly willing to reopen the building if there is definits assurance of the income.

There are also some indications that the University would be willing to take some loss in operation because of crowded conditions in the Indoor Athletic Building and the great inconvenience to the Law men to have to use a building so far from their dormitories.

Although over 600 men signed the petition, which was presented to John W. Lowes '20, vice-president of the University, there is a definite feeling in University Hall and the offices in Langdell that less than one-third of that number will be willing to pa for the privilege of using the building.

All sport in Hemenway is on an informal basis, and the building is used by undergraduates who do not care for the supervision prevalent in the New Gymnasium.
