FLUMIANI ARGUES IN ITALY'S CAUSE AGAINST PICKENS

Arthur N. Holcombe '06, professor of Government, will preside at the debate between Carlo Flumiani and William Pickens this evening in New Lecture Hall. Original plans called for Felix Frankfurter, Byrne Professor of Administrative Law, to act as chairman, but he has been called out of town.

A dinner will be held in the Eliot House dining room for the debaters. House Master Merriman and several members of the History and Economic departments have been invited to attend. The officers of the Liberal Club, under whose auspices the meeting will be held, will be hosts at the dinner.

Dr. Flumiani expects to make sparks fly and has sent several telegrams and short messages to the club during the last week telling of some of his ideals. The latest one declares that he intends to become an American citizen because be adores Italy and wants to Latinize America.

As his opponent he will meet William Pickens, former dean of Morgan College and author of several books dealing with the problems of the colored people in this country. He has been awarded several honorary degrees and is now spending his entire time trying to assist American negroes.

Pickens is a graduate of Yale and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa there. Flumiani received his degree from the University of Milan and studied at Harvard several years ago in the Economics Department.
