Eighty-five men turned out yesterday for the season's first intensive inter track practice, held on the wooden oval at Soldiers Field. With the return of all but six of the 44 runners who scored in the Yale Meet last year and the addition of many runner from last year's Freshman team, this department is well taken care of, but the weight events are rather dubious because of the loss of Dean and Healey, who accounted for 16 points in every meet last year.
Captain Scheu, who has defeated every good collegiate miler in the country, with the exception of Venzke, and who has proved a capable half-miller, will take care of the Crimson's points in these two events. Bliss, who won the half in the Yale Meet, is expected to duplicate his performances of last season Playfair, star of this year's cross country team, ranks as one of the country's best two-milers, and with the support of Pier and Woodard, should insure Harvard victory in this run.
Milt Green, ineligible last year, has proved his merit as a hurdler, broad jumper, and dash-man, and may do some record-breaking over the hurdles this season.
Derrickson, Abell and Dorman are the returning veterans of the one-mile relay team, and with a number of competent quarter-milers from the Freshman squad the Crimson should have a strong relay team.
