Merry-go-Round

University: "Dames"--the latest and most extravagant of the musical films. Pleasant if Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, and Joan Blondell are your idea of entertainment. Also "Hat, Coat and Glove"--which is all about love and murder with Ricardo Cortez in the leading role.

Metropolitan: Mae West as the coy and winsome "Belle of the Ninetles" Some good cracks and a lot of Mae in all sorts of situations. Good if you like the buxom Mac.

Loew's State: "Barrets of Wimpole Street"--Norman Shearer, Charles Laughton, and Frederic March make this oue of the best bets of the week. A faithful adaptation of the successful Broadway show.

Loew's Orpheum: "Chained"--with Joan Crawford. Reviewed in this Jssue. R.K.O. Boston: "The Scariet Letter"--Colleen Moore in au adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic.

Fine Arts: French version of the "Three Musketeera". Very colorful and capably performed. Really worthwhile.

Colonial: "Roberta"--fresh from a successful run on Broadway this is acclaimed as one of the better costume musicals. Unless you simply can't stand hearing any more about smoke getting in your eyes don't miss this.

Shubert: The university acclaimed musical of musicals. "As Thousands Cheer". You have heard all about this one and probably will not miss if this time unless you fail to get your seats in advance.

Old Howard: The old faithful Ann Corio is back and, supported by the usual items, provides Boston's little contribution to culture.
