Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
In an effort to strengthen the weak spots revealed by the Compton Cup Race last Saturday, Coach Charlie Whiteside yesterday afternoon changed the positions of four men in his first two crews. "Big Jim" Gardner who has been rowing No. 4 on the Jayvee outfit has been moved up to the Varsity No. 6 position whole John Bray, Jayvee No. 7 has been advanced to the Varsity Bow to add more weight to the front of the boat.
To make room for these advances Bobby Drysdale and Ray Clark have been put over with the Jayvees. Drysdale will be No. 4 man while Clark will fill the No. 6 position. Phil Weld who has been rowing No. 7 on the third crew will take over the No. 3 position in the Jayvee boat. Lewis Iselin, Jayvee No. 3, will fill Weld's place.
The changes will make both crews more nearly uniform in weight, adding 11 pounds to the already heavy Varsity crew while bringing the Jayvee average considerably below 180 pounds. For another year it appears that the Crimson will have a crew capable of winning performances in long distances, but it will probably be too ponderous to win the shorter races over first class competitors. However, the substitution of Tommy Hunter at cox just before the race at Princeton will lighten the boat by 2.2 pounds while still allowing for maximum advantage in weight and power.
The lineups at present are:
VARSITY--Bow, Philip V. Bray; 2, Taggert Whipple; 3, Bradford Simmons; 4, Henry F. Atherton, Jr.; 5, Gridley Barrows; 6, James E. Gardner, Jr.; 7, Leonard P. Eliel; Stroke, Samuel S. Drury, Jr.; Cox, Thomas H. Hunter.
JUNIOR VARSITY--Bow, Talbot Rantoul; 2, Thomas B. Knowles; 3, Philip S. Weld; 4, Robert M. Drysdale, Jr.; 5, Henry Saltonstall; 6, Arthur F. Chace, Jr.; 7, Raymond S. Clark; Stroke, Franklin A. Reece, Jr.; Cox, Edward S. Litchfield.
