Varsity Loses to Alumni 7-2 As Yale Tops Purple Team

On the same weekend that the Varsity lost to the Alumni 7-2, Yale wiped out Holy Cross 9-3. If you're interested in statistics, Holy Cross defeated the Alumni 4-2 earlier in this season and gave the Varsity an 11-4 washing one week ago. A month ago the Crusaders eked out an eleventh inning win over the Elis.

That doesn't look too good, especially since the twin Yale games three weeks hence will decide Harvard's place in the Eastern Intercollegiate League as well as the traditional Crimson-Blue championship. The only change in the League on Saturday was Cornell's removal from first place thanks to a 3-1 win by Dartmouth. That puts Pennsylvania at the top with .625, Cornell and Columbia next with 600 each, Harvard fourth with .571, Dartmouth fifth with .428, and then Yale with .333.

On Saturday, with Bill Lincoln pitching until the latter part of the eighth, then relieved by Laughing, the Varsity threatened only in the first frame before going down under a barrage of 11 hits poled out by Messrs. Dean Henry Chauncey, Johnny Chase, Frank Cutts, and company, of the Grads.
