HARVARD PROFESSORS WITNESSES AT TRIAL

Two Harvard professors were among those who took the witness stand Saturday in the interests of the defendants in the "riot" trial which is rapidly nearing completion in the Charlestown District Court.

William E. Hocking; '01, Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity, and Raphael Demos, lecturer in Philosophy, were both introduced by the defense as character witnesses for Louis Harap, assistant librarian in the Philosophy Library and Paul Gastwirth, a first-year graduate student in the department of Philosophy.

The police guard that has been stationed at Judge Sullivan's home since the first day of the trial to prevent any attempts at violence by radical agitators was removed yesterday and the presiding magistrate spent the weekend in the country.

The defenses has proceeded rapidly with the presentation of its case and it is expected that it will be completed today.
