NAVAL SCIENCE MEN TO MAKE SUMMER CRUISE

Juniors and Some Sophomores Depart June 20 for New London, Miami, and Jacksonville, Returning July 12

Juniors and a limited number of Sophomores in the Naval R. O. T. C. will embark from the Boston Navy Yard on the destroyer Manley June 20 for the annual training cruise in company with the ships of the Yale and Georgia Tech units. The unit will stop over at New London for the boat race June 22, proceed to southern waters for ship handling and target practice exercise and return to Boston July 10.

While at sea the Naval Science students will receive practical instruction in navigation seamanship, ship handling engineering, gunnery, fire control, and communications. At the same time, through actual experience standing watches on the bridge an in the engine room he will learn the duties of an officer of a ship. The itinerary calls for stops at Miami and Jacksonville, where liberty will be given and where the units present will have a boat race. During the first part of the cruise the students will be trained by Chief Gunner's Mate Stevens and Lieutenant Wellings of the Harvard Unit, and by the Manley's officers under her captain Commander Gillette for the big event of the cruise, the battle practice fired in competition with the other ships.
