GIVE GRADUATES $ 25,000 FOR STUDIES IN EUROPE

Awards to Harvard students of 20 fellowships and scholarships for graduates study were announced last night at University a Hall. The endowments total $25,600 an average of about $1,200 per student, and a intended to provide study abroad for the recipients in history, music fine arts, modern languages and Gar Eastern languages.

Among the principal awards are the six Charles Dexter scholarships for the summer of 1934, enable students to visit Oxford and Cambridge in England, of the English cathedral towns.The winners are Lyman E.Butterfield 1G. of Rochester, New York; Samuel P,Chew, Jr 3G, of West River, Maryland Toy Lam son. Jr, 5G. of Cambridge; James S. McLaughlin, 2G of Oberlin, Ohio Brooklyn, New York and Francis L. Utley ,5G, of Escanaba, Michigan.

Oriental Studies

Teh Edward R.Bacon Scholarship for two Years providing for a study of painting in Europe, has been won by Winthrop O. Judkins '34, of Glens Falkls, New York, nowa student in Fine Arts.

Four fellowship have been award by the Harvard-Yenching Institute, established in 1928 for teaching and research in the language, Picture his Tory and art of China and Japan. Hold- ors of the endowments are Derk Bodd '34, of Rochester, New York; Harris G. Creel 1G, of Calesburg, Illinois; and Edwin O. Reischauer 3G, of Tokyo, Japan, who are at present holdin travelling fellowships from the institute, and George N. Kates of saunder town, Rhode Island, who is not enrolled at the University.

The Coolidge Fellowship, established in Music has been awarded for the second time to Donld J. Grou 4G, of Melrose, and the second to Edwin B. Lawton, Jr. '3G of Cambridge.

One John Knowles Paine Travelling Fellowship in Music has been awarded for the second time to Donbald J. Grouse 4G, of Melrose , and the second to Edwin B. Lawton , Jr. '34, of Cambridge

The Rogers Fellowships for foreign study in anyway field have been won by Ferdinand W. Coudert 2G, of New York City , a student of History.

Also awarded were the Arthur Deloraine Corey fellowship for study in Europe to Paul. L. MacKendrick '34 of Roslindal; the Sachs Research fellowship in Fine Arts to Robert Smith , Jr. 1G, of Detrol, Michingan and the Leverett Saltonstall Scholarship for study in Europe to Charles Hiller 5 G, of Buchanan, Michigan
