Ithaca, New York, Feb. 22--A gamely fighting Harvard quintet was defeated here tonight by a powerful, quick-starting Cornell five, with a score of 42 to 28. Cornell's early attack amassed an overwhelming 18 to 2 lead in the first ten minutes of play, which the Harvard team was never able to overcome. Captain Johnny Ferraro, star Cornell forward, was high scorer of the evening with 19 points, while Richard G. Fletcher '35 paced the Crimson with three field goals.
Both teams played ragged basketball, Harvard's passing being noticeably wild, while Cornell's shots were often wide of the mark. At the beginning of the second period, Harvard tallied six points in quick succession, to make their only serious threat of the evening.
Cornell rallied immediately, and soon ran their score to 38, a long shot by Boys increased the Harvard score to 28 as the final gong sounded. Goals: Ferraro 9, Freed 5, Fletcher 3, Downer 3, Comfort 2, Ferriter 2, Morse 2, Houck 2, Boys 1, Grady 1, Merry 1. Fouls: Grady 3, Boys 1, Ferraro 1, Foote 1, Freed 1, Wilson 1.
