In the last day of the University Handicap Meet cold weather forced Coach Eddie Farrell's track men to seek the shelter of the Briggs Cage and the old baseball cage for all events except the 50-yard dash which was run on the Stadium track. Three Sophomores took first places in the seven events that were held yesterday afternoon.
The summary:
50-yard dash: Won by R. S. Greene '34 (1 yd); D. C. Crawford '36 (2 yd) second; G. W. Downer '36 (1 yd) third. Time 5 2-5 seconds.
600-yard run:
First heat: Won by R. A. Brayton '37 (20 yd) 1 m. 12 2-5 seconds; E. S. McGuigan 2L (sc) 1 m 13 2-5 seconds, second; J. Derman '36 (10 yd) 1 m. 15 seconds, third.
Second heat: C. Abell '35 (13 yd) 1 m. 13 2-5 seconds; J. M. Morse '34 (sc) 1 m. 14 1-5 seconds, second; P. B. Wintersteen '34 (12 yd) 1 m. 15 seconds, third.
Final heat (judged by times Won by Brayton: McGuigan and Abeil, fied for second.
3-4 mile run: Won by R.S. Playfair '36 (Sc): J.P. Schen '35 (Sc) second: C.C. Woodard '34 (Sc), third. Time: S minutes. 09 seconds.
Pole vault: Won by A.K. Barcewic's '36 (2 ft. 9 in) 13 ft. 9 in; R.S. Skinner '37 (2 ft. 3in), A.G. Trope '37 (2 ft: 9 in). T.F. Piper '36 (1 ft. 9 in) tied for second at 13 ft. 3 in.
Broad Jump: Won by J.D. Weiss IGB (1 ft) 21 ft. 8 in: C.E. Retche '37 (1 ft. 6 in) and J.D. Woodberry '35 (1 ft. 6 in) tied for second at 21 ft. 1 m.
