LIBERAL CLUB TO FORM SPECIAL STUDY GROUPS

During the past two years the Liberal Club has discovered that in its meetings the opinions advanced by its members have been so various and divergent that in the general discussions little can be accomplished on an integrated basis. Hence, it has adopted the method of forming smaller groups for the special study and discussion of particular problems of contemporary public affairs. Each of these study groups is to be under the guidance of a member of the faculty. Meetings will generally be held every two weeks. Meanwhile members will do outside reading on their problems under the direction of the faculty supervisor.

Most of the problems which will be studied lie in the field of politics, economics, and philosophy, which are the leading interests of the Liberal Club. The first group met last Tuesday evening under the guidance of Max A. Shepard, instructor in Government, to study the New Deal. A second group, which will study the philosophy of liberalism, will meet within a week under the direction of Overton H. Taylor, instructor in Economics. Another group is definitely being formed to study practical politics and will be led by Boris Alexander, instructor in Government. There is a possibility that in the near future two more groups will be organized, one to study planned economy and the other the current labor situation.
