Curley, Walsh Win In Massachusetts As Nation Voices New Deal Approval

Curley and Walsh swept Massachusetts yesterday as the nation followed Roosevelt to give the New Deal a new lease on life with at least seven seats gained in the Senate by the Democrats.

New York

A New York state Democratic landslide swept Governor Lehman, the remainder of the state ticket and U. S. Senator Royal S. Copeland to re-election tonight by 2-1. The Democrats retained their majority in the Senate and wrested control of the assembly from the Republicans.

Frank J. Taylor, Tammany candidate for Controller of New York City defeated Joseph D. McGoldrick, Fusion candidate.

California

Governor Merriam, Republican, held a precarious lead in the early returns tonight.

Wisconsin

Senator Robert M. LaFollette, Jr., led his opponents by a wide margin in early scattered returns from one third of the state's 171 counties tonight.

Connecticut

Re-election of Governor Cross, Democrat, appeared certain on the basis of returns from 81 of the state's 169 towns.

Ohio

Senator Simeon D. Fess, Republican, was falling behind Vic Donahey, Ohio's best Democratic vote-getter.

New Jersey

Governor Harry Moore, Democrat, enjoyed a slight lead over Senator Hamilton Kean in the gubernatorial race.

Indiana

Sherman Minton, Democrat, was leading Senator Arthur Robinson, Republican, in the Indiana Senatorial contest.
