JAYVEES DOWN '38 TEAM 13-9 WITH LATE RALLY

Touchdowns by Higgins and Fletcher Hand Gallagher's Men First Defeat of Season

Jimmy Knox's Jayvee gridsters yesterday staged a slashing rally in the last half to overcome a nine-point lead and down Cliff Gallagher's unbeaten yearlings by the score of 13-9 in the annual contest on the Jayvee gridiron.

Starting off strong, the Freshmen struck first in the initial period, when Tim Reardon, fleet halfback, broke loose off right tackle and dashed 25 yards to score standing up. John Nesmith's kick for the extra point sailed wide of the uprights. The yearlings increased their lead by three points in the second period when George Roberts placekicked a beautiful field-goal from the 25-yard stripe.

The Jayvees came out fighting in the second half and drove the ball relentlessly down the field against a sluggish yearling line until Higgins drove off tackle for the first Jayvee score, and Brooking's kick made the count 9-7. Behind the hard-running Pedrick, the upperclassmen passed their way through the dazed Freshmen to tally again on a pass from Pedrick to Fletcher. The attempt at conversion failed and the game ended a few minutes later with Jimmy Knox's boys still clinging to their 13-9 lead.

Score--Junior Varsity 13, Freshmen 9. Touchdowns--Reardon, Higgins, Fletcher. Points after touchdown--Brookings. Field goals--Roberts. Referee--Kelley. Head linesman--Curtis. Umpire Phinney.
