Featuring lectures by John Mason Brown '23 and Lee Simonson '08, the Leland Powers Foundation, which has been founded to inaugurate an institute of stage arts in Boston, will present a complete course in drama during the coming winter. Frederick C. Packard '20, assistant professor of Public Speaking, is on the Committee of Advisers.
These lectures will consist of five talks by Simonson on scenic arts and crafts, presented on November 8, November 22, December 20, January 10, January 31, and five by Brown on November 2, November 23, December 7, January 25 and February 28. A third course will be given by Clayton Hamilton containing six lectures on playwrighting, on October 30, November 13, November 27, December 11, December 18, and January 8.
To round out the program, five events in charge of Arthur Hopkins have been announced, beginning with his lecture "Is Amusement Enough?" scheduled for October 28, at the Wilbur Theatre. Following this is a talk entitled "The Theatre is Itself" to be presented by A. E. Thomas on November 18, at the Wilbur Theatre. On Sunday, January 6, the same theatre will be the scene of an informal program by a group of New York stars.
A variation will be offered in the form of the production "The High Road" by Fred Lonsdale, which will be staged by the Comedy Club on Thursday, January 17 and Friday, January 18 at The Leland Powers Playhouse, 31 Evansway. As a final feature this same organization will present, "Patticoat Influence" by Neil Grant on February 14 and 15.
