Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
43 was the lucky number of players chosen by Coach Casey to remain on the Varsity football squad after the first cut since the opening day, which went into effect yesterday.
The only promotion was the addition of Arthur O. Choate, Jr. '34, an end, to the Varsity. Choate has previously been a member of the second jayvee team but showed such promise against the Varsity in the scrimmage of Friday that he won a place on the first-stringers. He ran through signals with Team C yesterday.
The physical exercises, given for the first time this fall, continue to make the players perspire under their well-versed director.
Dummy Scrimmage
The squad was put through the usual calisthenics and drill on fundamentals and then lined up for a "dummy scrimmage at full speed." Coach Casey started the revamped A team against the C's and later made frequent substitutions in both lineups. The emphasis was placed on carrying out of assignments and not on the coordination of a definite team. The backs were given a long passing drill and some improvement was noted.
Schumann in Signal Drill
Healey took Schumann's place on Team A for the scrimmage as the newly-promoted guard is to be broken in easily. Schumann went back in at guard for the signal drill. Gundlach was also given the day off but appeared in uniform.
155 Freshmen reported for the first practice session and after the usual preliminaries Coach Cliff Gallagher chose 12 teams at random and ran through a few plays. The squad boasts many school-boy stars but is some lighter than the usual run.
Yesterday's team A: White, l. e.; Francisco, l. t.; Schumann, l. g.; Crane, c.; Gulian, r. g.; Kopans, r. f.; kelly, r. e.; Peter, q. b.; Laney r. h. b.; Moseley, l. h. b.; Dean, f. b.
