After a week of pre-season practice, Coach John F. Carr '28 finds that his Varsity soccer team contains an abundance of good material. Eight men of last year's combination are back, in addition to a powerful forward line which has come up from last year's Freshman team.
The veteran booters are headed by Captain William Wemple '34, Jonathan E. England '35 and William F. Nichols '34 are returning goalies. Richard M. Gummere '34 is at fullback, with Horace B. B. Robinson '34 at center halfback. The veteran forward line consists of Delevan C. Clos '35, Melvin G. Grover '35, George F. Stork '35 and Edward H. Robbins '35.
The main task which confronts Coach Carr will be to develop a successor to Captain Alan T. Schumacher '33, who played at right outside. He will also need to find a pair of capable wing half-backs.
Fifty candidates are expected to report at the initial season practice today in preparation for the opening game on Saturday, October 7, with Fitchburg.
