Dunster, Eliot, and Winthrop Houses will enter crews in the first official House crew race tomorrow on a 1 3/4 mile course, ending near the Union Boat Club. The winner will annex the Agassiz Cup, presented in 1931 by G. R. Agassiz '84, president of the Board of Overseers. A combination crew made up of Leverett and Adams House men will also row the course, although it will be ineligible for the award. Men on probation will be permitted to row in this race.
A close race is predicted by Coaches Jim Erickson and Ed Brown. No practice races have been held except a run between Eliot and the Third Varsity which left the Elephants far behind. Although the Winthrop House crew has shown considerable potential speed on the river, Dunster and Eliot have exhibited great evenness of timing in the practice sessions. Eliot House, which has two boatloads of men to pick from, is the favorite in some quarters in spite of its extreme lightness. Winthrop, on the other hand, has entered a heavy crew.
On Tuesday, May 9, the three crews will race again to determine which House crew will meet the victorious Yale class crew on Saturday, May 20. After tomorrow's race, Dunster and Winthrop will have only an even eight men out for the sport, for only men of satisfactory scholastic standing will be allowed to row in preparation for racing Yale.
