To the Editor of the CRIMSON:
Your rather intelligent and sympathetic editorial on the Debating Council, printed in yesterday's issue, is marred by an unfortunate remark that "debating as a form of extra-curricular endeavor has fallen into disrepute." The remark seems a trifle strong.
It is quite true that the Debating Council conspicuously lacks the support of the undergraduate body. This is not so much the fault of the Council as of the undergraduates, who fail to realize their lamentable deficiency in public speaking, always so clearly revealed when the First Marshal rises to act as chairman of the Lee Wade and Boylston Prize Speaking Contests.
But "disrepute?" I should be interested in knowing who read editorial copy last night. Donal M. Sullivan '33.
