A plan by which only an elected representative group of faculty members would attend faculty meetings in the future, was proposed at the meeting of the faculty last Tuesday by President Conant, it is understood, although no official information has been given out.
In the past, the meetings of the faculty, which take place about ten or twelve times a year, have been open to all members of that group. Recently it has become increasingly common for but a small number to attend the meetings. As a consequence, a majority is seldom present, while those men who are at the gathering fail to compose a representative body of the faculty. President Conant's suggestion, therefore, is in line with an attempt to take some action to do away with this difficulty. Whether this suggestion is accepted or not, it is understood that steps of some sort will be taken to have a smaller group, truly representative of the faculty as a whole, present at the meetings.
President Conant's recommendation was merely a suggestion to the Faculty, and was but one of several ideas discussed at the meeting to bring about a more effective method of faculty administration. The proposal will be referred to a committee to be chosen soon.
