John F. Carr, Jr. '28, Crimson soccer coach, will utilize practically the whole Varsity squad in the opening game with the Fitchburg State Teachers College this afternoon at one o'clock on the field behind the Business School.
Substitutions will be made most freely in the halfback positions, all three of which must be filled this year with new men. After experimenting all week with the six candidates for these stations, Carr will send in Frank W. Vincent, Jr. '36 at lefthalf, John Dorman '36 at centerhalf, and Culvin F. Morrill '34 at righthalf. One other man on the starting lineup who did not play on the 1932 Varsity is Leon H. Manheimer '36 at center forward.
Good competition will be provided by the Fitchburg State team, which has already played its first game, resulting in a 6-0 shutout over the American International College. Although both Harvard and Fitchburg State are members of the Intercollegiate Soccer League, this afternoon's contest will not count in the association's rating since this is considered only a practice game.
Freshman candidates for the yearling soccer team are being coached for their first game Wednesday with Tufts by Noobar R. Danielian '28, with the assistance of Robert R. Pool, Harvard H. Broad bent '32, captain of the 1931 soccer team, is in charge of the Jayrees.
