Four lettermen have returned to Coach Fred Mitchell for fall Baseball practice at Soldiers Field baseball diamond. These are Philip W. Hines '34, Edward F. Loughlin Jr. '34, Francis H. Gleason '34, and Charles S. Sargent Jr. '35. About 40 other men have turned out for fall practice on the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman teams.

Three other lettermen who will return in the spring, but who are absent from fall practice due to participation in fall sports are Charles J. Nevin '34, veteran catcher, Craig D. Woodruff Jr. '34, who plays shortstop, and John Ware '34 takes care of center field.

Coach Mitchell has a large squad of pitchers upon whom he can rely. This is topped by Captain Loughlin who may be switched to third base where he has been used in practice recently. Martin Victor '35, a lanky right-hander is coming up from the Jayvees, who will join William A. Lincoln '35 and Donald H. Gleason '35, pitchers who were carried with the Varsity last spring. John J. Campana '36, twirler for last year's second Freshman teams is also on the Varsity roster. Others coming up from the Freshman teams are Richard Maguire '36, Michael S. Hovenanian '36, and Braman Gibbs '36.

Mitehell's main task this year will be to develop two capable fielders to replace James P. McCaffrey '33, who played right field, and Hamilton Thacher Jr. '33 who played left field. Johnny Ware, who played last year in center will be the mainstay of the outfielders in the spring.

The nine has been given infield and batting practice during the past week. Yesterday, sides were appointed by Coach Mitchell, and the first practice game was played. Candidates for next spring's Freshman nine were included in the lineups. Practice games of this sort will be played every day form now on until the weather becomes too cold for baseball.
