Gentleman who has just spent three weeks in Boston comes into our office with a couple of items he insists are not apocryphal. He says Boston remains firmly the same. Cars are still "stood" there, not parked, for instance. He tramped for half an hour around Cambridge trying to find the Commander Hotel. Defeated by tricky diagonals, he appealed to a youth in flannels for directions. The latter replied in the best of Harvard. "First you turn left," he said, "then two right, then--" Here the young man paused, broke down. "I'm sorry," he said. "I'm afraid I can't help you. I'd have to point." The New Yorker.
