For the first time this year the Varsity tackled Coach Cliff Gallagher's Freshman football outfit in a scrimmage at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. Gallagher kept his famous triumvirate of Bilodeau, Eckers, and Ford out of action, with the exception of allowing Bilodeau to run off a few plays towards the end of the scrimmage.
Yesterday's practice was also the first time that darkness has made it necessary to bring out the white ball. The zero hour for ordinary visibility came at 4.45 o'clock, but Head Coach Casey kept the entire squad on the field for half an hour longer. The Freshmen were used to demonstrate the Notre Dame shift which Holy Cross will introduce into the Stadium this Saturday. The scrimmage was both offensive and defensive for both outfits, but at the end of each play the ball was brought back to the place from which the play had started. Peter, Pescosolido, Litman, and Crane were all in street clothes yesterday, while Warren Casey was dressed for action but kept out of play.
