MAYOR RUSSELL AHEAD IN PRIMARY BALLOTING

DEMOCRATIC FIGHT LOOMS OVER ELECTION NOVEMBER 7

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Mayor Richard M. Russell '14 scored a victory in the Cambridge primaries yesterday when he defeated his nearest opponent, John D. Lynch by 3, 944 votes. Mayor Russell's total poll was 12,053 votes.

Since Ralph N. Hamilton, the only Republican running for the office was completely showed under, receiving only 2,383 votes, the race for Mayor will be a Democratic battle. The other Democratic candidate, Daniel F. O'Brien, placed third with 5,370 votes.

While the outcome of the primary causes no surprise, there is the prospect of a stiff battle ahead for the election on November 7. Whichever way the votes of O'Brien and Hamilton swing, will determine the outcome.
