EXERCISES TO BE HELD ON ELIOT'S CENTENARY

Definite plans for exercises in memory of the late president of Harvard, to take place next March on the centenary of his birth, were announced by the Charles William Eliot Memorial Association. The organization, founded last February, also plans to secure the dedication to his memory of a proposed bridge to be built by the state across the Charles River between Soldiers Field and Gerry's Landing.

According to a statement of present plans, the association intends to "set up an appropriately located permanent memorial, the character and impressiveness of which will depend upon the amount of funds which may be secured from those who believe in the things for which he stood. It is hoped to raise $20,000 for this purpose."

On the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, in 1924, thousands attended a gathering in the Yard to honor the aging president-emeritus while congratulatory messages from notables all over the country poured in.

The celebration planned for March 20, 1934 will feature addresses by nationally known speakers, but it has not yet been decided whether any of the ceremonies will be open to the public.
