Disappointing many spectators who expected to see a close, tense match, the Varsity polo team crushed the immediate hopes of the Westwood polo team for the Senior Indoor Championship by defeating them 13 1-2 to 1 1-2 at the Commonwealth Armory in the feature match last Saturday night.
Crimson Rally in Fifth
For the first four chukkers, the play was even, and gave evidence of a drawn-out struggle, but in the fifth period, the lightweight Varsity took on a spirit of team-work that characterized their win over the Cavalry last week, and cutting down the Westwood defence, scored seven times in rapid succession, Nicholas leading his Crimson riders with four tallies.
The summary: Score--Varsity 13 1-2, Westwood 1. Goals--Nicholas 8, Davis 3, McGuckin 3, Clark. Time--Six 5-minute chukkers. Referee--John Walsh. The victory of the Varsity team was balanced by the defeat of the Junior Varsity at the hands of the 51st Artillery Brigade, which, registering in every period, cantered through to a 14 to 7 1-2 win. The summary: 51ST ARTILLERY JUNIOR VARSITY Score--Artillery 14, Junior Varsity 7 1-2. Goals--Eckfeldt 6, Moore 5, Oliver 3, Storer 2, Young, Illoway, Benson. Time--Six 5-minute chukkers.
