UNIVERSITY TEAMS IN OPENING SCRIMMAGE

SECONDS HOLD BOTH TEAMS TO TWO TOUCHDOWNS APIECE

Yesterday afternoon's practice session found the University A and B football teams racing through their first scrimmage of the season against the first and second Junior Varsity lineups.

Following an hour of the usual routine work on fundamentals, team A lined up on its own 30-yard line against the Seconds. Crickard, whose return to Harvard was doubtful till two weeks ago, showed some of his old time form in gaining the opening first down against some hard opposition by the Seconds. The University team at this point looked somewhat ragged, so Casey stopped practice to check them up. A Wells to Crickard lateral and an off-tackle smash by Wells paved the way for a touchdown by Crickard in two plays. Wells then kicked the extra point.

The second drive of the A team found Wells calling a series of passing plays, in which the protection was good but the passing inaccurate. Grady replaced Crickard and did some good blocking. A long Wells to Hageman pass failed, but another toss to Dean shortly afterwards netted the second and last touchdown. Wells again kicked the extra point.

The team B scrimmage against the second Junior Varsity team resulted in two touchdowns for the foremen, Whitney and Locke. Whitney's team looked as if it were pulling together better and hitting harder than the A team.

On the whole this first scrimmage was satisfactory, showing a group of speedy backs and a potentially powerful line. Team A will probably undergo little change in the near future.
