As a result of the investigation carried on by University officials during the last few weeks, five of the eight students, who a week ago had their cases disposed of at the third district court in East Cambridge, were placed on probation for participating in the riot on April 21.
The period of probation imposed has been made to vary with the seriousness of the offence. Although no names were given out, it was learned that several of the men have been put on probation only for the remainder of the year, while others will not be let off till next year.
The total number of students now on probation is 21, of whom 16 were disciplined for having failed to obey orders of the proctors to return to their rooms.
Police action against the participants closed with court disposition last week.
