NETMEN LOSE TO NORTH CAROLINA, TACKLE NAVY

By winning all three of the doubles matches, a powerful North Carolina tennis team defeated the University netmen 6-3 yesterday afternoon at the Divinity Courts. Harvard will play again today with Navy furnishing the opposition at 3 o'clock on the Divinity Courts.

With all but one of the singles matches going to three sets, the Harvard team showed up well in fierce competition, as Patterson, Broida, and Davenport defeated their opponents. The No. 1 and No. 2 matches went to North Carolina, Grant defeating Frame 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, and Hines winning a hard-fought contest from Barnaby, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. In the doubles, the Crimson netmen were outclassed and the Southerners brought the score to 6-3. Davenport and Ray played the most spirited match against Grant and Wright.

Navy, which will play the University team today, has been defeated 8-1 by North Carolina.

Broida '32 defeated Abels (N.C.), 6-4, 1-6, 6-0; S. E. Davenport '34 defeated Morgan (N.C.), 6-4, 6-4; Shuford (N.C.) defeated G. H. Hartford '34, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Doubles--Hines and Shuford (N.C.) defeated Frame and Broida, 6-2, 6-3; Grant and Wright (N.C.), defeated Davenport and J. F. Ray '33, 7-5, 10-8; Dillard and Morgan (N.C.) defeated Patterson and G. D. Key '33, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
