In a statement challenging the integrity of Harvard men and Harvard progressiveness, the conservative source of "Today's Truth--Tomorrow's Trend," reports that cribbing has not reached Harvard 'yet'. Such a discrediting imputation should serve to stir the University to a ferment of activity and reform. Even the Republicans would be stimulated to reform should they learn that the Prohibition racket had not yet come to Washington.
Throughout the United States, those twin devils, absinthe and obscenity, have raised problems, and they have been solved: Capone had an organization; Congress has an organization; even the Watch and Ward has an organization, but Harvard lags behind. Western Universities, with avid maliciousness, watching and waiting, have at last located the flaw in Eastern culture, and have published their discovery. Harvard has received the first attack.
There is yet hope that Princeton and Yale, the other Eastern colleges under investigation, will not be found similarly wanting. It is a deplorable reflection on education in the East that, boasting advance in material ways, it has failed to keep pace with the younger, fresher, and more aggressive ideas and ideals that are coming from beyond the Alleghenies. Can it be allowed to be said with truth that Harvard cherishes reaction?
