The official budget of the Student Council as announced last night by J. R. Collins '32, treasurer of the Council, lists contributions amounting to $2000 to be divided among six charity foundations. Phillips Brooks House will receive its usual quota of $4000, which is distributed to other charity organizations directly connected with Brooks House.
The Committee on Friendly Relations among Foreign Students will receive $500 from the Council to pursue its work. The American Red Cross will also be given $500. Each of the following are listed to receive a contribution of $850: The International Student Society, the Salvation Army, the Industrial Aid Society of Boston, and the Cambridge Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
One New Charity
The only new charity is the Industrial Aid Society of Boston which supports many unemployed college and non-college men. There will be no direct donation to unemployment committees, since $26,000 was given to the Cambridge Unemployment Relief Committee from the collections made at the football games with Dartmouth, Holy Cross, and Yale.
The pledges this year totalled a little over $8000, approximately $1000 less than students gave last year. From the remaining amount in the treasury a considerable sum will go for the preparation of the class album, which is partially self-supporting. Photographs for nominees for class officers alone cost over $200. The small amount in pledges still outstanding will go for the support of certain minor charities which the Council aids every year.
