Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Opening its thirty-second annual meeting this afternoon at 4 o'clock in Agassiz House, the New England Association of Teachers, in collaboration with the Harvard Teachers Association, will discuss "The Supervision of English." Professor J. J. Mahoney '03, of Boston University will act as chairman of the conference.
Professor C. S. Thomas '98, associate professor of Education, who arranged the program, will give a prefactory word. Following his address several five-minute talks will be given by members of the association.
The talks that will be given are: "Geting Mechanics Covered," Mr. W. S. Hinchman '01, Milton Academy; "Homogeneous Grouping and Honors Courses," Mr. D. A. Shepardson, The Choate School; "Training the New Recruits," Miss H. L. Harris, Gloucester High School; "Transferring the Misfit Pupil in English," Mr. W. L. Carney, Melrose High School; "Reorganizing the English Curriculum under the Harkness Foundation," Mr. F. W. Cuchwa, Phillips Exeter Academy; "The Problem of the Staff Meeting," Miss S. F. Dawes, Quincy High School; "Improving Working Conditions for the Teacher of English," Miss A. P. Butler, Cambridge High and Latin School; "Correcting Reading Tastes and Habits," Mr. H. V. Coryell '11, Browne and Nichols School; "Can Teaching Ability be Objectively Measured?" Mrs. G. E. W. Foster, Somerville High School; "Can Marking Standards Be Made Approximately Uniform in an English Staff?" Miss A. H. Spaulding, Brookline High School; "The Problem of the Non-Literary Pupil," Mr. L. C. Zahner, Groton School; "Tests and Examinations in English," Dr. E. R. Smith, Beaver Country Day School; "Departmental Administration of Special Projects," Mr. S. Thurber '01, Newton High School; "The Dangers of Over-Emphasis in Supervision," Dr. C. M. Fuess, Phillips Academy, Andover.
Following these five-minute speaches, Mr. N. R. Tempest, Commonwealth Fund Fellow at Harvard and formerly of the Roundhan School, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, will address the teachers on "Supervision of English in America and Great Britain: Comparisons and Contrasts."
At 6.15 o'clock an informal dinner will be held at the Commander Hotel, Cambridge. Mr. J. E. Blossom, of Worcester Academy, will be the toastmaster. The speakers for the dinner are: Mr. E. W. Weeks, of the Atlantic Monthly Company; Dr. Henry W. Longfellow Dana '03, of Cambridge; Professor R. S. Hillyer '17, associate Professor of English; Miss Phyllis Bottome, British novelist, author of "Devil's Due" and other stories. The charge for the dinner will be $1.75 to members of either the Harvard Teachers Association or the New England Association of Teachers of English and $2.00 to non-members.
Tomorrow morning at 10.15 o'clock the teachers will meet at Huntington Hall, Boston. Professor Charles Gott, of Tufts College, will discuss "Freshman English and Teaching Fellows." The next speaker, Miss M. C. Sheridan, of New Haven High School, will talk on "Aspects of High School Supervision." "Some Suggestions for Supervising the Teaching of Literature," will be discussed by Professor R. P. Boas, of Wheaton College. Professor T. H. Robinson, of Rhode Island College of Education, will give a talk on "Junior High School, A Supervisor's Busy Day." The last speaker, Mr. J. C. Minot, of the Boston Herald, will tell the teachers "What America Is Reading and Why."
The present officers of the New England Association of Teachers of English are: President, J. E. Blossom, of Worcester Academy; Vice-President, A. L. F. Snell, of Mount Holyoke College; Editor, C. S. Thomas '98, associate professor of Education; and Secretary-Treasurer, A. B. deMille, of Simmons College.
