‘I Am Really Sorry’: Khurana Apologizes for International Student Winter Housing Denials
An afternoon conditioning workout and a voluntary morning session for individual tutelage make up the preliminary training under Coach Harold Ulen for the Varsity swimming squad which opens its season against M.I.T. on December 16.
With few weaknesses showing in the eight events and only one serious loss through graduation, that of Sidney Bluhm '32, regular diver on last year's team, Coach Ulen expects to start a strong team against Tech in the first contest of the year. Following the usual limbering-up exercises which began early in the fall, the squad entered the pool in the middle of November and has spent most of the time on fundamentals.
Two New Rivals
Two new rivals appear on the Crimson schedule this year when the Varsity meets Pittsburg on January 14 and Columbia at New York on February 11. The Pitt team has earned a reputation in the Middle West as one of the faster outfits and the Harvard coaches expect stiff competition from the newcomers. Columbia is also reputed to have a speedy aggregation.
Captain R.D. Fallon '33, and George Wightman '34 lead the group of aspirants for the 50-yard free style event with R.S. Wallace '35 and J.F. Donnelly '35, members of the 1935 outfit, also entered in the dashes. B.S. Wood '33, captain of last season's team, and T.H. Jameson '33 are veteran candidates for starting positions in the 220. G.C. Larcom '33 and A.C. Dearing, Jr. '34 are outstanding in the breaststroke. Others who have shown promise as Varsity material in the various events are: Dive, H.S. Bowen '35, E.V. Keville '33, Charles Runyon '35. 440-free style: E.C. Devereux '34, Fisher Howe '35. A.W. Sherwood, Jr. '35.
