FIRST YEAR DEBATERS START SEASON TONIGHT

PARLIAMENTARY DISCUSSION TO BE HOLD ON JANUARY 6

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Preparations for the first meet of the Freshman Debating Council were completed yesterday with the announcement of the men who will speak at the debate with the Winthrop High School team at Winthrop this evening. Elimination trials for the team resulted in the selection of A. G. Sullivan '36, as first speaker, L. C. Lewin '36, second man, J. S. Bach, Jr. '36, third, and C. B. Fiebleman '36 as alternate.

These men will defend the affirmative of the question: "Resolved, That all debts contracted with our allies prior to the armistice be unconditionally cancelled." The Winthrop team argued this same question with the Brown freshmen three weeks ago, and are therefore conceded a slight edge over the Harvard men.

After the recess there will be a parliamentary discussion on Friday, January 6, in the Union, on the question: "Resolved. That censorship, artistic, literary, and dramatic, should be abolished in the United States." This will be open to all Freshmen. After the discussion members of the 1936 Debating Council will elect officers to replace the temporary ones selected at the beginning of the year. T. B. Quinn '36 is the temporary president of the team, and Lewis Perry, Jr. '36 and J. S. Bach '36 are temporary recording secretary respectively.

Plans for the remainder of the season have been tentatively arranged and will be released after the recess.
