8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Acting on the recent report of the Student Council recommending measures to facilitate Inter-House eating, the Masters of the seven Houses met yesterday at noon with President Lowell, Dean Hanford, and A. L. Endicott '94, comptroller of the University, for a discussion of the question.
The outcome of the conference, following a luncheon at the President's House, was the creation of a subcommittee, consisting of the Senior Tutors of three Houses who will investigate the aspects of Inter-House Dining and make a report to the House Master's at their next meeting. The committee, consisting of Allen Evans '24, of Leverett House, G. C. S. Benson of Lowell, and D. V. Brown '25 of Kirkland will form a working group to consult with R. L. Westcott, manager of the University Dining Halls, A. L. Endicott '94, comptroller, and W. C. Saeger '04, bursar of the College, who will supply all the information that the committee needs to make a complete study. The report will be submitted in three or four weeks.
Sentiment among the House Masters favors the adoption of Inter-House eating, but to all it is obvious that there are necessary restrictions to prevent over-taxing of the facilities of any one House Dining Hall, to the partial abandonment of any others. If unlimited House eating were allowed, the accommodations of Adams House would be seriously strained on rainy days, because of its proximity to the Yard. Houses nearer the river would not be used much during the luncheon hours.
