Light workouts were the order of the day for teams A and B in yesterday afternoon's practice sessions as Coach Casey drilled his first string athletes in the fundamentals of blocking and kicking. Wood called signals to Mays, Dean and White as the A and B backfields worked on aerial attack and pass defense.
This afternoon the A and B elevens from which Casey must pick a team to face Bates in the season's opener on October 3 will have their first stiff practice since Saturday, when they take the field against Coach Knox's Seconds. A C-team scrimmage with the Seconds yesterday resulted in one score. D. E. Peters '34 caught a punt on the Second's 35-yard stripe and wriggled through a broken field. Nevin kicked the extra point.
At the close of practice it became known that P. L. Wendell '13, Crimson gridiron leader in 1912 and former coach at Williams and at Lehigh, will have charge of the 1935 backfield. R. H. Bond '17, who succeeds Casey as first year mentor, will also direct Freshman basketball and will supersede Davison as Freshman baseball coach.
Coach Wachter, who has guided the Freshman courtmen for the past two years, will coach only the University quintet. Bond, who takes on a triple assignment, will fill this fall the position left vacant when Casey was chosen to succeed Arnold Horween '21 as head coach.
