PORTRAIT IN STRAUS HALL IS BADLY SLASHED BY VANDALS

An oil portrait of Isidor Straus, which hangs in the Common Room of Straus Hall, was seriously mutilated by an act of vandalism some time over the weekend, it was discovered yesterday afternoon. A piece about two inches square was cut from the face of the portrait.

Straus and his wife, in whose memory the building was erected, were the parents of J. H. Straus '93, who with P. S. Straus '97, and B. N. Straus '03, presented the dormitory to Harvard in 1925.

Yard Officer M. J. Mahoney had the room locked up pending investigation. Aside from a broken window and the fact that the windows were unlocked, no conclusions could be reached as to the perpetration and motive of the offense, which was similar to one committed in Lowell House several months ago.
