SHAPLEY IS HONORED BY SWEDISH, ITALIAN GROUPS

Harlow Shapley, Paine Professor of Practical Astronomy, has been elected to the Royal Swedish Society Physiographic as a foreign honorary member, it was announced yesterday.

Professor Shapley received an additional honor at the same time when a cablegram notified him that he had also been elected to the Royal Lombardy Institute of Sciences and Letters of Italy.

The Harvard astronomer is the first American scientist to be admitted to the Swedish society.
