Under the direction of A. W. Samborski '26, Director of Intramural Athletics, Senior, Junior, and Sophomore class tournaments are now approaching the final rounds. A squad tournament, as a result of which three or four men will be added to Coach Cowles's forces after an inspection of comparative scores is in the semi-final stages. The winner of the Freshman tournament is Acosta Nichols, Jr. '34.
In the squad matches, J. B. Walker '33 will meet L. C. Sorensen in the semi-finals. Walker defeated D. R. Weir '32, 10-8, 8-6; and C. B. Sykes '33, 7-5, 6-2, while Sorensen advanced with victories over J. T. Foster '33, 6-4, 6-4; and J. C. Camphell '33, 7-5, 6-3, R. A. Cooley '32 will be a semi-finalist in the lower bracket; he downed R. L. Riley '33, 6-1, 7-5; and H. L. McClung '32, 6-1, 6-1. In a quarter-final match R. H. Woodward, Jr. '32, will face the winner of a match between J. G. Gherry '33 and E. E. Mitchell '33.
Nicholas, first year champion scored wins over A. E. Phillips '34, 6-2, 6-1; and W. B. Lovejoy, 6-1, 6-4, defeating Ernest Wye, Jr. in the finals in a three set encounter, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Wye defeated R. E. Hickey '34 in two love sets, and H. H. Thompson '34, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
D. T. Field '31 is a finalist in the Senior tournament, by virtue of victories over J. C. Bayley, Jr. '31, 6-3, 6-2 and L. H. Rhinelander '31, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. J. A. Altman '31, in the quarter finals, will meet the winner of a match between A Douropulos '31 and G. B. Evans '31.
In the Junior field, W. C. Wallace '32 is a semi-finalist. The Sophomore tournament, with an unusually large entry list, has been narrowed to 15.
