The new Poetry Room which has just been given to the University will act as a fitting memorial to three people who were sincerely interested in Harvard and who devoted their lives to literature. Beyond this sentimental value, however, the Room will be of much practical service to the undergraduate. No adequate collection of this nature has existed in the University heretofore. The library will give an opportunity for literary research and it will create a pleasant atmosphere for casual reading. The Room itself will form a congenial surrounding for the lectures on modern poetry which are made possible by the Morris Gray Fund.
The dual nature of the gift which makes it both a thing of utility and of sentiment will make the Poetry Room a particularly acceptable addition to the cultural opportunities of Harvard.
