LOWELL HOUSE AND GOLD COAST WIN RUGBY TILTS

Lowell House Rugby Team Defeats yard by 10 to 3 Score--Freshmen Lose to Gold Coast

Winning by comfortable margins, the Gold Coast and Lowell House rugby teams defeated the Freshman and Yard representatives in two intramural matches played on Soldiers Field yesterday. Lowell House was the victor over the Yard in the first contest by a 10 to 3 score, while the Gold Coast vanquished the Freshman in the second encounter, 14 to 0.

F. E. Bissell '31 was the chief scorer for Lowell House, and P. C. Reilly 2G. B. made the tally for the losing team. E. C. Carter '31 converted Bissell's two try to add four points to his team's score. In the second match, the Gold Coast forwards, who are up to University caliber, proved too strong for the freshman defense, especially after the loss of Stanton Whitney '34, mainstay of the first-year team, who injured his shoulder. This accident will keep Whitney out of the Princeton game next Saturday, but will not prevent him from taking part in the yard contest the week after.

The showings made in the games today enabled Coach T. P. Fry to draw up a tentative University lineup. The final selections will be announced tomorrow.

The game taking place with Princeton in the Stadium Saturday will be of particular interest since it will be the first athletic contest played at Cambridge between Crimson and Nassau aggregations since the two institutions broke off relations in 1926. The University Second rugby team will probably play the newly-organized M. I. T. XV, which includes several experienced veterans of the Boston Rugby Club.

Announcement was also made yesterday that the Dunster House and Graduate School rugby teams are being recruited this week, and will start to play within the next few days. They will join the Intramural League, which has now completed the first round of its schedule.
