BEGIN REMODELLING IN A ENTRY OF STANDISH HALL

Work will begin today on the remodelling of A entry, Standish Hall, into a Master's residence for the new John Winthrop House. The 17 students living in that entry were moved recently by the Maintenance Department of the University to the other University dormitories.

The students were moved into other Freshman dormitories, and into Claverly, Apley, and Straus Halls. An effort was made to insure that each man had accommodations equal to those in Standish, and in most eases even larger rooms were found. The transfer to new rooms was made at the expense of the University.

In the present A entry, the stairway and rooms 15, 25, 34, and 35 will be walled off, and will not be materially changed next year. From this wall out to the end of the wing the present rooms will be removed and completely changed. The wreckers will start tomorrow, and it will be three weeks before the reconstruction work on the house will begin.

Among the new features of the Master's house will be a study, six

master's bedrooms, and a student reception room having an entrance on the court. There will be another entrance for the use of the Master opening onto a garden between Eliot House and the present Standish Hall. The interior will be chiefly decorated with panelling, and there will be very little change in the exterior aside from the doors and an alcove on the Eliot side of the Master's house.

The other changes that will be made in Standish and Gore Halls will be carried out during the summer and are less definite. According to the present plans the dining room in Standish will be changed into the library for the House next year.

The greatest changes in Gore Hall will be the enlarging of the dining hall, and the changing of the present common room into the common room for the whole house. The dining room will be enlarged by excavation of the court along the side of the present dining room, and building a small annex, the top of which will then be a terrace. The ground will then be graded to allow for windows in the side of the terrace for the dining room
