With the completion of preliminary eliminations yesterday afternoon, all the finalists in the annual University fencing championship have been selected for the bouts which will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the fencing room of the new Indoor Athletic Building.
The epee preliminaries were completed yesterday, with the selection of the following fencers: F. S. Righeimer 2L. H. B. Wesselman '31, H. C. Cassidy '31, and J. D. Allen '31. This brings the total of epee finalists to six, K. R. Ludlam '33 and J. H. Beard '34 having been chosen on Tuesday. This is the only weapon in which a graduate student has shown any strength thus far in the championship. Righeimer fenced creditably yesterday, but he will encounter stiff opposition today from the four regular members of the University team.
Folls at 3 o'clock
The foils will begin at 3 o'clock this afternoon with the epee bouts following at 4 o'clock. The fencers who will cross swords to determine the University champion foilsman are H. B. Wesselman '31, J. D. Allen '31, H. C. Cassidy '31, and Gilbert Kerlin '33. Again in this weapon the University swordsmen have carried the first eliminations. The competition for champion will likely be keener in this division than in any other.
Beginning at 4 o'clock bouts will be held to determine the winner of the University sabre championship. The contestants for this title are W. M. Wing '31, R. B. Lawson '32, K. R. Ludlam '33, and E. A. Ackerman '34. The outcome in this division is doubtful, but Ludlam appears to be the strongest of the contestants.
