Spring football practice will begin at 3 o'clock this afterncon and will continue for three weeks until Friday, April 10. Only men who are not engaged in any other spring sport are eligible for practice.
The three weeks will be devoted to drill on fundamentals, and individual attention will be given. Toward the end of the drills the squad will be divided into three camps which will oppose each other in three games to end the practice.
Ticknor May Coach Line
It is expected that Arther Sampson, former Columbia backfield tutor, who will coach the backs next fall, will be on hand to look over material. E. L. Casey '19, will be head coach, and E. H. Bradford '26, Walter Clarey '15, V. P. Kennard, Nils Nelson '18, and Arthur Sampson, will be assistant coaches. It is also hoped that B. H. Ticknor '31, will be assistant line coach.
In past years the turnout of candidates for spring practice has been quite large and it is expected that 60 or 70 men will report today. However, the first team players have not responded in any great proportion in the past, and there will not be very many today it is expected.
Attempt to Reduce Overemphasis
The short duration of spring practice is in keeping with the attitude of the Harvard Athletic Association which is attempting to reduce the overemphasis which has been much under discussion recently. The final games between the three camps will be the only competitive incentive for the men and the main emphasis will be on drill on fundamentals.
