NEW ENGINEERING CLUB FORMED BY 34 STUDENTS

ELECT OFFICERS AND FACULTY ADVISOR

Meeting for the purpose of organizing the Harvard University Student Branch of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers a group of 35 engineering students elected officers and heard a talk on the purposes of the branch in a short meeting held in room 307 Pierce Hall yesterday morning.

Members of the club elected the following men as officers: president, William Eugene Billings '31, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; vice-president, Joseph Michels Keller '32, of New York City; secretary, William Alfred Love, Jr. '32, of Honolulu, Hawaii; senior representative, Frederick Vaille Weeks '31, of Ogden, Utah; junior representative, William Edward Hutchins '32, of Riverton, New Jersey. All of these officers meeting together will form the executive council, which will have general control over the functioning of the club. C. H. Berry, professor of Mechanical Engineering, will be faculty sponsor.

Any student in mechanical engineering, who is a member of the Undergraduate Division of the Harvard Engineering Society, is eligible for membership in the new organization. No fee is required and anyone desiring to join should see the secretary. Members have the privilege of attending meetings of the national society.

As outlined by the president of the society the purposes of the club are as follows: to give students an acquaintance with the practical side of mechanical engineering; to furnish them with the principal publications of the society; to keep them in touch with engineering progress.
