A Harvard debating team last night was defeated by speakers from Porto Rico, in a contest held at Phillips Andover Academy. The winners were upheld by a majority of the audience, who did the voting.
The Crimson representatives supported the negative side of the statement: Resolved, That this house condemns the growing influence of the United States in the Western Hemisphere. The Porto Ricaus, by defeating the Harvard debaters, added another victory to their string, having previously downed Yale the night before.
The winners were chiefly successful because of the work of A. J. Colorado, captain of the team, who delivered the rebuttal for his side. Dr. Alfred E. Stearns of Andover was the presiding officer of the affair, which was attended by the faculty and student body of the school.
