Harvard Swimmers Win From Syracuse 38 to 24

Two Harvard records were broken Saturday afternoon as the University swimming team took every first and second place but two to defeat Syracuse University 38 to 24, gaining the fourth successive victory of its season.

Captain W. S. deLima '31 finished the quarter-mile swim with a time of 5 min., 8 3-5 sec., bettering his former mark of 5 min., 20 sec. In the 200-yard breast stroke swim G. C. Larcom '33 nosed out iverson with a time of 2 min., 47 2-5 sec., clipping 2 3-5 sec. from his previous record.

Syracuse's outstanding performer was Wohl, who finished the 150-yard back stroke with a time of 1 min., 46 sec., three seconds faster than that of White, Brown swimmer, and eight seconds short of the pool record set by Kojac of Rutgers.

The Crimson relay team was disqualified when B. S. Wood '33, winner in the 50-and 100-yard free style swims, started before Timken had slapped the end of the tank.

100-yard free style swim--Won by B. S. Wood '33; second, Addison Love '33; third, Kehlhof (S). Time--55 1-5 sec.

Columbia Defeats Wrestlers 20 to 8

The University wrestlers suffered a decisive defeat from the hands of a strong Columbia team on Saturday afternoon in the New Indoor Athletic Building. The Lions won by a score of 20 to 8, and effected Harvard's first defeat this winter.

The Columbia team was fortified with the experience of four wins this season, and came on top with one fall and five decisions. The large number of decisions indicates the closeness of each match. Harvard scored a decision and a fall. The decision of the referee was given to Arthur Klein '32, in the 125-pound class, after a hard struggle, and J. H. Crandon '33 won a victory, pinning his opponent's shoulders to the ground, in the 135-pound match. In most of the heavier bouts Harvard lost by decision after one or more overtime periods. Baker of Columbia, however, scored a fall over R. W. Straus '31, in the unlimited weight class, after a furiously pitched battle. D. B. Dorman '32 fought in the 145-pound class instead of P. O. Johnson, who was on the sick-list.

118-pound class: Queneau (C) defeated F. C. Evans '31 by decision.

125-pound class: Klein defeated Johnstone (C) by decision.

135-pound class: Crandon defeated Amster (C) by fall in 5 min., 44 sec.

145-pound class: Captain Relyea (C) defeated Dorman by decision.

155-pound class: Kinzler (C) defeated O. E. Goddard '33, by decision.

165-pound class: Clark (C) defeated Captain W. A. Robertson '31, by decision.

175-pound class: Scott (C) defeated R. R. Levin '32 by decision.

Unlimited class: Baker (C) defeated Straus by fall in 1 min., 55 sec., after first overtime period.

Racquetmen Defeat Penn 5 to 0 as Freshman Teams Lose

Easily winning by a score of 5 to 0, the University squash team defeated Pennsylvania Saturday on the Linden Street Courts. The closest match was that of Captain C. D. G. Breckinridge '31 and P. Wells. The remaining Harvard racquetmen, Beekman Pool '32, A. C. Ingraham '31, A. W. Patterson '32, N. F. Glidden '31 had little trouble in defeating their opponents.

The Freshman C team lost to the Union Boat Club 3 to 2 in a Class C division A play-off at the Boston A. C.

In an easy victory over the Freshman Class D team the Dunster House team defeated the Freshman 4 to 1. The hardest fought match was between J. W. Appel '32 (DH) and Acosta Nichols '34.

University Swordsmen Down N. Y. U. 9 to 8 as 1934 Loses

The Harvard University fencing team opened its season with a close 9 to 8 victory over New York University at the Indoor Athletic Building last Saturday afternoon.

The Crimson men were the superior with the folls, winning this portion of the match by a 7 to 2 score. New York University retaliated with the epee by shutting out the Harvard men, 4 to 0. The sabre event was divided by the two teams, each countering 2 points.

H. B. Wesselman '31 and R. B. Lawson '32 were the Crimson stars, winning every bout in which they were entered. Picket shone for New York University, winning the Violet's only folls bouts.

In two previous contests on their week-end trip, the New York University team defeated Boston University 9 to 4, and M.I.T. 11 to 6.

The Freshman fencing team suffered a 13 to 4 defeat at the hands of the Brunswick High School swordsmen. Hurd was the outstanding man for the Freshman squad with victories in the foils and epee bouts. Brunswick won the foils event, 6 to 3.

Brunswick also came out first in epee matches by a 3 to 1 score, and made a clean sweep with the sabre, 4 to 0.

Epee: Grautoff (N.Y.U.) defeated F. C. Fiechter; Jr. '32, and K. R. Ludlam '33. Glbson (N.Y.U.) defeated G. M. Yatsevitch '33, and K. R. Ludlam '33.

Sabre; Lawson defeated Goldstein (N.Y.U.), 5-0, and Rose (N.Y.U.), 5-2. Rose (N.Y.U.), defeated W. M. Wing '31, 5-3. Zimmerman (N.Y.U.) defeated H. B. Walker '33.

Crimson Boxers in First Contest Downed by Dartmouth 4 to 3

Losing by a count of 4 to 3, the University boxing team bowed to Dartmouth in the initial meet of their first season. The climax was in the heavy-weight bout, in which J. M. Adlis '32, who had defeated William Brister in the 175-pound class, fought a hard, close battle and lost in an extra round to Wilkin, Dartmouth fullback. Adlis was substituting for H. M. Myerson '32, who was unable to fight.

The only knockout came in the 160-pound class when William Cooper '33 gained a technical knockout in the second round after Martin of Dartmouth was unable to continue. The other Harvard wins were in the 125-pound and the 175-pound classes by Arthur Palaza '32 and Adlis respectively.

Robert Veres and John Bean of Dartmouth scored victories in the 160-pound and the 135-pound classes respectively. Veres very nearly gained a knockout over P. G. Downes '32, and Bean had the advantage over D. P. Ketcham '32 throughout his bout.

115-pound class: Veres (D) defeated Downes, three rounds.

125-pound class: Palaza defeated Peterson (D), three rounds.

135-pound class: Bean (D) defeated Ketcham, three rounds.

145-pound class: Alton (D) defeated J. J. Mellen '33, three rounds.

160-pound class: Cooper defeated Martin (D) Technical knockout in the second round.

175-pound class: Adlis defeated Brister (D), three rounds.

Heavyweight class: Wilkin (D) defeated Adlis. Four rounds.

Army Trio Outplays Harvard 15 to 8 as Jayvees Lose

The University polo team was defeated by the Army trio at West Point on Saturday, by a score of 15 to 8. On the same evening the Jayvees lost to the 102nd Field Artillery team by the score, 7 to 4.

The Harvard team put up a good battle until the last two periods, when Rodgers and Beebe, of West Point, broke through the Crimson defense to score heavily. In the final chukker the Army team clinched the victory by outriding and outplaying their opponents. This is Harvard's second game of the season and its first defeat.
