President Lowell has accepted an invitation from Lowell House to attend a birthday dinner there on December 13, which is the President's 75th birthday. In connection with the dinner, which will be limited in attendance to actual members of the House, and which will be informal, plans are under way for a short entertainment.
It had been originally planned by the Master, the tutors, and the House committee that there should be a House dinner for the members of Lowell House some time before the Christmas recess. This dinner would differ from the customary High Table dinners in that there would be speeches and a general got together of all the members of the House. Then it was thought fitting to give this House Dinner in honor of President Lowell on his birthday, and the President has accepted the invitation.
An entertainment committee consisting of P. G. Hoffman '32, H. P. McIlhenny '33, and Oscar Sutermeister '32, is making plans for the entertainment to be presented following the dinner. Although a definite program has not been drawn up as yet, tentative arrangements have been made to include music in the form of an orchestra and of a male chorus, as well as some dramatics.
In arranging for the affair, it is planned to seat the guest of honor at a table in the center of the Dining Hall with various members of the House. The remaining guests will find places throughout the room, with the tutors to be seated at various tables with the residents of the House. It is not planned to use the High Table for the dinner, but all the tables will be on the floor of the room.
