GOODHUE SETS NEW MARK AS RUNNERS OUTDO HOLY CROSS

University Captain Leads Field in Major Race--Currier, Putnam Turn in Good Performances

A record which had stood since 1928 was shattered yesterday when N. M. Goodhue '35 led a field of 32 entrants to finish first against the Holy Cross Freshmen as the Crimson first year men triumphed 23 to 46. At the same time the University team, led by Captain N. P. Hallowell, Jr. '32, made a clean sweep of the first six places to win from the Crusaders, 15 to 55.

Goodhue led throughout the Freshman race over the Soldiers Field time trial course, which measures slightly under one and one half miles, to finish in 7 minutes, 28 1-5 seconds. The old mark, set in 1928 by B. E. Estes '32, was 7 minutes, 40 seconds. Kenney of Holy Cross, A. S. Pier '35, and Nowling of Holy Cross followed Goodhue at intervals of one fifth second.

Hallowell Leads Field

Captain Hallowell, although he has been prevented by examinations from running during the last four or five days, had little trouble in leading the pack over a three and three-quarter miles flat course to turn in a time of 17 minutes and 33 1-5 seconds. C. B. Currier '32, who has not practiced with the team regularly during the 1930 season staged a surprise by placing fourth, and J. W. Putnam '33 showed up well as the eighth Crimson runner to finish.
